The Issues
FOUR POINTS
- The “unlevel playing field” - The struggle for sovereignty, federal trust status, and tribal jurisdiction.
- “Don’t eat the seed corn!” - Economic growth requires reinvestment and No Per Capita.
- Benefits from the Tribe should go first to those most in need - our traditional way.
- Native CDFI’s (Tribal Savings Certificates) represent the “Next Big Thing” for Indian Country’s banking tribes - attracting tribal member savings and investment. Tribal member investment pays intangible dividends.
Platform
- Caution and sensible financial management until the economy improves.
- Building Assisted Living Centers for tribal members in Oklahoma. Expanding the Area Service Centers
around the country to also include Assisted Living Centers.
- Advocacy for tribal Members in Nursing Homes with daily visits by Tribal Elder Health Representatives.
- Lowering the age for eligibility for Health Aids and prescriptions by 3 years, making thousands more eligible
for services.
- Extending scholarships to graduated students and vocational re-training.
- Creating an automobile trade and sales agency for tribal members and employees, including wholesale
prices and financing.
- Tribal Savings Certificates with no upper limit in size, paying tax-exempt interest.
- Expansion of earnings by low-risk reinvestment in existing assets or markets.
